Chris Redfield is a first main character "Resident Evil". Member of Raccoon City Police Department's special forces unit, the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.). He is the lead male protagonist of Resident Evil.

History[]

Prior to joining S.T.A.R.S., Chris was a pilot in the United States Air Force. He was discharged following a conflict with a superior officer.[2] Sometime after, he was referred to S.T.A.R.S. by his friend Barry Burton.[3] Chris fit well into the team, building relationships with Forest Speyer, Joseph Frost, and Jill Valentine.[4][5] Chris has also built a friendship with R.P.D. officer, Roy.[6]

In addition to being a licensed pilot, he is an expert marksman—the highest ranked on the team—and has a keen sense of observation and insight.[2] He has a strong will and a powerful physique.[7] Chris is also known for smoking cigarettes regularly.[1]

The Umbrella Incident (1998)[]

On the night of July 24th, 1998, S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team launched its investigation in the Arklay Mountains. They were searching the forest area for the members of Bravo Team, who had gone missing shortly after takeoff. From the skies, they found the empty wreckage of Bravo Team's helicopter and proceeded to investigate the area. The newest recruit to Alpha Team, Joseph Frost, found a severed hand at the site before being killed by a pack of zombie dogs. Alpha Team pilot, Brad Vickers, panicked and fled the area with the helicopter, leaving the surviving members of the team stranded. Chris—along with Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, and Albert Wesker—retreated to a strange mansion deeper in the woods.

Inside of the mansion, the team decides to split up and continue their investigation. They find more strange creatures and the corpses of their fellow Bravo Team companions. During his search, Chris finds Rebecca Chambers, a new recruit to Bravo Team. The two team up at various points and navigate the maze-like surroundings of the mansion. As the two uncover the secrets of the bizarre location, they discover that Alpha Team's commanding officer, Albert Wesker was secretly conducting biological experiments with Umbrella and had orchestrated the entire incident. He unveils a new creation, the Tyrant, which promptly turns on Wesker and mortally wounds him. Chris is able to subdue the Tyrant and reunites with Jill and Barry. The team makes the decision to destroy the mansion and contain the virus. As Rebecca sets the device for the triggering system, the team receives a radio broadcast from Brad who is hovering over the mansion. The four survivors regroup and signal Brad from the nearby heliport. Just then, the Tyrant breaks through the floor and together, they defeat the creature.

As the helicopter takes off, the mansion explodes in the distance.

Investigation Of Umbrella (1998)[]

Chris's search for the Umbrella headquarters ended quickly in late December. His sister, Claire, was captured by Umbrella's security division in France and transported to a prison camp on Rockfort Island in the Southern Ocean. A strain of the t-Virus engulfed the island as its security forces defended an invasion from HCF, a paramilitary unit under the command of Albert Wesker. Chris himself was made aware of this when he was contacted by Leon S. Kennedy, a former rookie RPD officer turned US-STRATCOM agent that Claire met in Raccoon City. Chris immediately traveled to the island to rescue her. Immediately, he met Rodrigo Juan Raval, a security guard who freed Claire from her cell earlier during the chaos.

Chris continued to explore the remains of the island's facilities after he learned that Claire left the island altogether, and was confronted by Wesker, who revealed his superhuman abilities, and informed him that Claire was at an Umbrella facility in Antarctica. Chris piloted one of the facility's Harrier jets to the Ross Ice Shelf. Upon reaching the Antarctic base, he found her unconscious in a replica of Spencer's Mansion. Wesker himself traveled to the base in pursuit of Alexia Ashford who possessed the last remaining sample of the t-Veronica Virus. Chris and Claire's reunion was brief as they are separated when Claire departed to find a fellow prisoner named Steve Burnside with whom she was cooperating.

Chris watched Wesker and a mutated Alexia fight after he demanded that she should hand the Veronica Virus over, but was forced to deal with her himself when Wesker fled the scene. Chris brought her down temporarily.

After Steve's death, Chris activated the base's self-destruct system and reunited with his sister. They attempted to escape, but Alexia reappeared and tried to stop them. Chris and Claire activated a special weapon, known as the Linear Launcher, but the weapon needed time to charge. Chris told Claire to wait for him at the Harrier jet while he dealt with Alexia. Claire reluctantly agreed, but as she tried to leave, Alexia blocked her path and tried to attack her. Chris shot Alexia whose body responded by mutating into an arthropod-like monster. Claire ran away and Chris battled Alexia alone. During the fight, Alexia left her cocoon body and transformed into a dragonfly. The Linear Launcher finally charged, and with only one shot, Chris was able to finish her off.

When the base began to crumble, Chris chased after Wesker, who had taken Claire hostage. Chris convinced Wesker to release Claire, claiming that it was him that he really wanted; Wesker responded that killing him was better than completing his mission of acquiring the t-Veronica Virus. Chris also learned that Wesker planned to extract the t-Veronica Virus from Burnside's corpse and was appalled by Wesker's implication that he planned to resurrect Steve from the dead. Telling Claire to wait at the jet, Chris engaged Wesker in hand-to-hand combat but was brutally beaten by Wesker's new superhuman abilities.

As Wesker gloated that his new powers are well worth the price of his humanity, a desperate Chris caused several hanging girders to topple onto Wesker's head. Even this was not enough to kill Wesker, but the two dazed men were in no condition to continue fighting due to the imminent destruction of the facility. Wesker promised that the next time that they met, it would be the last. With the base exploding around him, Chris emerged from the elevator and was blown across the room, landing on the nose of the jet. Scrambling into the cockpit with his sister, Chris piloted the jet away from the facility which promptly exploded. Claire asked him to promise that he would not go off and leave her alone again, but Chris said that he had to put a stop to Umbrella for good.

After this incident, Chris was reunited with Valentine who previously escaped Raccoon City's destruction with Burton. She previously arrived at Chris ransacked apartment but found only his knife on the floor. Valentine set off to find Chris who was already searching for her. After reuniting, the two joined as partners to form an anti-bioweapon task-force. Working alone for the next five years, they did everything that they could to try and expose Umbrella, but always wound up at a dead end.

Private Anti-B.O.W. Agency (2003)[]

Following the Raccoon City incident, Chris and Valentine founded an anti-B.O.W. agency to investigate Umbrella and destroy bio-weapons. In early 2003, they heard reports of attacks by mutant wolves in the Caucasus region. Upon arrival in a nearby village, they were attacked by zombies. After clearing them out, they investigated the town, eventually finding a little girl named Anna hiding inside her house. She described the wolf attacks, the spread of the infection, her mother turning, and her father hiding her in a closet. She also told them how the adults often gathered at the silo. Chris and Valentine figured that if there were any other survivors, they would have hidden in the silo.

Entering the silo, they found it deserted, except for the corpse of the village chief, seemingly frozen to death in the refrigerator. They discovered that he froze to death trying to escape the zombies, which quickly set down upon them. The three tried to run outside but found the door blocked from the outside. Before they were overwhelmed, Chris shot at the flour packages lining the walls and created a distraction. After narrowly escaping by hiding in the fridge, Chris and Valentine exited the silo to find Wesker outside, who congratulated Chris on his "dumb luck".

Chris accused Wesker of masterminding the events in the village, which Wesker denied, claiming that it was nothing more than an accident; that the village was "cursed". At that moment, the ground collapsed near the entrance of the silo, releasing Two Hunter. Chris demanded to know what they were doing under the village, but Wesker ignored him and left, leaving Chris and Valentine to fend off the Hunters. They managed to get to the car and destroy the Hunters with a grenade launcher. They went off in pursuit of Wesker, who, they noted, was headed for the village. Arriving at Anna's house, they found Wesker attempting to access a safe. Wesker explained that Umbrella had set up multiple hangars all over the world and that most of this village were actually Umbrella employees. Furthermore, their leader had collected data in this very house. Anna then revealed that her father had given her a pendant, which Wesker took and used as a key to the safe. However, the safe contained an explosive, meant for Anna's protection, forcing Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine and Anna to escape. Chris and Jill discovered from Anna that her father worked at a factory at a nearby chemical factory belonging to "Umbrella".

Joining a regional biohazard containment unit, Chris and Jill carried out a full-scale assault on the Caucasus facility believed to contain a new type of B.O.W. After being dropped off, they proceeded to storm the facility, destroying any of Umbrella's old Bio-Weapons they encountered, and skillfully avoiding traps.

Eventually, they were confronted with a new experimental Bio-Weapon, codenamed t-A.L.O.S. Sergei Vladimir revealed himself to be the creator and sealed Chris and Jill inside the T-A.L.O.S. containment room and activated the monster. Sergei taunted them, announcing that as fellow soldiers, Chris and Jill know the feeling of being alive in battle, before revealing T-A.L.O.S. as if to say no amount of battle experience is enough to defeat this new B.O.W. Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine managed to defeat T-A.L.O.S., finally ending Umbrella once and for all. After escaping the facility, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine still lamented that Albert Wesker was still out there. Though their troubles with Umbrella were over, it would only be a matter of time before they would be dealing with Wesker again. Unbeknownst to them, Wesker had actually infiltrated the facility in order to assassinate Sergei Vladimir.

Il Veltro and the BSAA (2003-2005)[]

After Umbrella's collapse in 2003, it became clear that rogue researchers succeeded in selling the company's assets on the black market to terrorist organisations and rival firms. In response to this new threat, Chris and Jill helped create the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA), dedicated to stopping the creation and usage of bioweapons. In 2005, a year after the infamous bioterrorist attack known as the Terragrigia Panic, the BSAA was informed about the resurrection of "Il Veltro", the bioterrorist organisation that destroyed the aquapolis. In order to investigate this rumor, BSAA director Clive R. O'Brian sent Chris Redfield and his new partner, Jessica Sherawat, to a mountain range in Valkoinen Mökki, Finland, where Veltro's hideout was rumored to be located. Once in the area, however, Sherawat and Chris lost contact with the BSAA headquarters, forcing the two to finish the mission without support.

In the meantime, Jill Valentine and Parker Luciani launched a rescue mission to the Mediterranean Sea to locate them. According to the last known coordinates on the terminals, Jill and Parker learned that Chris and Sherawat were somewhere in the ocean, possibly aboard a ship, leading Parker and Jill to investigate the Queen Zenobia.

Arriving at the peak of the mountain, Chris and Sherawat witnessed a terrible crash of a cargo plane nearby. Searching the crash site, they find traces of a virus along with the mauled corpse of the pilot, who was suspected to be a member of Il Veltro. Following a path, Chris and Sherawat rushed through a mining area, a shortcut to the hideout. While in the caves, they were attacked by several mutant wolves infected with the t-Abyss virus, then still unknown. During combat, Chris leg was injured, but the pair managed to defeat the Fenrir pack as Sherawat made her way to his location. At the end of the caves, Chris and Sherawat discovered an airbase used by Veltro as a hideout. Soon after this, O'Brian re-established contact with his agents and learned of their findings. Chris and Sherawat are also notified of Valentine and Parker's disappearance and possible capture by Il Veltro. Chris and Sherawat immediately returned to headquarters, taking a chopper and setting off on another mission to find Veltro's ghost ship. However, there was no further information about the cruise ship's current location.

Under Chris suggestion, O'Brian sent operators Keith Lumley and Quint Cetcham back to Valkoinen Mökki airport to recover data on the exact coordinates of the Queen Zenobia. This mission was accomplished, Chris and Sherawat to locate the cruise liner. Landing on the ship's deck, Chris and Sherawat began the search for their lost comrades, fighting off hordes of mutants. However, they soon realized that this ship was actually the Queen Semiramis, a carbon-copy of the Zenobia. Revealing this mistake to O'Brian, Chris acquired the actual location of Queen Zenobia. While approaching the Zenobia in a boat, Chris and Sherawat were attacked by an unknown sea monster, but they managed to frighten it off and secure their entrance to the ship. They finally found Parker and Valentine in the ship's Casino, where Sherawat shot an unarmed Il Veltro agent, much Chris surprise. Unmasking the dead agent, they discovered that he was, in fact, Raymond Vester, an FBC operator. After this, Chris partnered up with Valentine once more, heading to the ship's lab to prevent the t-Abyss virus from contaminating the sea, while Parker and Sherawat searched for a way to delay the Queen Zenobia's sinking.

Once in the labs, Chris and Jill managed to neutralize the t-Abyss virus permanently, not knowing their actions were being monitored by Morgan Lansdale, the mastermind behind the Terragrigia Panic. While escaping the sinking ship, Jill and Chris found a wounded Parker (shot in the leg by Sherawat, Morgan's mole). Though they failed to save him from seemingly falling to his death, he managed to survive. Outside of the Queen Zenobia, the two were attacked by the same giant B.O.W. that Chris and Sherawat fought, but they managed to destroy it with the help of Kirk Mathison.

However, the mission was not over yet: Director O'Brian came clean with Jill and Chris, revealing that he orchestrated the Veltro conspiracy. He also confirmed the existence of a third ship: Queen Dido. In order to retrieve a video containing the proof of Morgan's schemes, Chris and Jill headed for the Dido's remains beneath Terragrigia ruins, discovering that Jack Norman, leader of Il Veltro, was still alive inside the wreckage. In his vendetta against Morgan, Norman injected himself with the t-Abyss virus, becoming the powerful "Ultimate Abyss". After a grueling fight, Chris and Valentine destroyed the creature, retrieving Norman's PDA and revealing the truth about Terragrigia, leading to Morgan's arrest and the decline of the FBC.

Posteriorly, after the BSAA's reformation as a global United Nations special operations unit, Chris became an Special Operations Agent (SOA). Partnering with Valentine, the two took part in various operations, including bioweapon terrorism interdictions in Asia, destroying bioweapon laboratories in South America, and arresting traffickers in Europe. Chris then received Level 10 action authority in the BSAA, and the number of operations he actively participated in elevated him to the top among all BSAA members.

Spencer Estate Investigation (2006)[]

In 2006, Chris and Jill received a tip-off from a reliable source detailing the location of former Umbrella founder Oswell E. Spencer, and the pair intended to raid his hideout and arrest him for questioning.

Entering the estate, it was not long before they discovered the bodies of Spencer's bodyguards who were already brutally killed through "unconventional means". They survived and endured numerous puzzles and traps built on the estate while fending off multiple Guardians of Insanity, which relentlessly pursued them throughout their mission. Proceeding through the estate's gardens, they fell through an old bridge and landed in the sewers below, losing most of their equipment in the process. Defenseless, the agents outsmarted and eliminated the remaining Guardians of Insanity before escaping from the sewers. When they arrived at the last hallway in the estate, they discovered more of his bodyguards horrifically murdered outside the entrance. When they opened the last door where Spencer could be hiding, they are greeted by Wesker who had just killed Spencer moments before. A brief battle soon followed. Despite their best efforts, both Chris and Jill are easily beaten by Wesker's superhuman powers. Just as Wesker was about to deal the killing blow to Chris, Jill tackled Wesker out of a nearby window and both fell into a chasm. Chris could do nothing as he watched his partner fall to her death.

The BSAA conducted a three-month search for Valentine's body, but with no success. As a result, Jill was officially declared killed in action. For the next three years, Chris refused to believe that Valentine died and put himself into every mission available with the hopes of finding some kind of lead to her whereabouts. Chris eventually got wind of some rumors that Valentine was still alive, although he was unable to confirm them until 2009.

Kijuju Incident (2009)[]

In 2009, Chris Redfield was arguably the most active and respected member of the BSAA, participating in more missions than anyone else, and was largely responsible for their success. In March, during one of his investigations, Chris uncovered an upcoming bioweapons deal to occur in the Kijuju Autonomous Zone of Africa. Chris was sent to Kijuju alongside his new partner, Sheva Alomar, as well as BSAA Alpha Team, to arrest bioweapons dealer Ricardo Irving, who had connections to the rumored Uroboros virus.

After Chris and Sheva met their contact, Reynard Fisher, who provided them with equipment and the mission details, they proceeded to their rendezvous with Alpha Team at the deal coordinates, encountering and fighting locals infected with Type 2 Plaga who became Majini. The mission went awry when Chris and Sheva witness Reynard's execution by an angry mob, as well as discovering that Alpha Team had been almost completely massacred - apart from Captain DeChant, who was mortally wounded. Before dying, DeChant revealed that the deal was a set-up and handed Chris a hard drive containing data he retrieved from Irving.

The pair received orders to relay the data through a computer at the nearby storage facility. En route, they encountered a new type of B.O.W. infected with Uroboros, the same one that killed Alpha Team, and managed to defeat it. Arriving at the computer, Chris uploaded the data to HQ, who reiterated that capturing Irving was their top priority and instructed the duo to head to the mines past the train station, despite Chris apprehension.

On the way to their next objective, Chris witnessed his air support helicopter, piloted by Kirk Mathison, attacked by Kipepeo and crash land further into the town, and switched his priority to attempting to rescue him. Arriving at the crash site, he found Kirk's body charred atop a pile of burning tires, leaving Sheva and himself vulnerable to an ambush from a Majini motorcycle gang. They are saved by Delta Team, led by Captain Josh Stone, who passed on the analysis of HQ's data to Chris and confirmed that Irving has moved into the mines. When Chris looked at the data, he found a picture of a woman bearing a strong resemblance to Jill Valentine, causing him to have brief flashbacks of the Spencer Estate Investigation, but ultimately he shrugged them off and continued the mission.

Making their way through the train station and mines, Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar managed to corner Irving in a building by the mine's cliffside, but a diversion allowed a mysterious cloaked woman to save Irving from capture. Having lost the target, Chris checked the files that Irving left behind, which hinted at an oil refinery in the marshlands as being Irving's next destination, but decided to rendezvous with Delta Team first, with BSAA trooper Dave Johnson transporting Sheva and himself to the meeting point. When he arrived at the rendezvous, it appeared that Delta Team had also been mysteriously wiped out. However, upon further investigation, he soon met the culprit of the massacre, Ndesu, who crushes Dave underfoot. Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar managed put down the monster with mounted machine guns. Upon Sheva's discouragement at the demise of her comrades and her suggestion to back out, Chris revealed his personal stake in the mission - he'd received intel that Jill Valentine was still alive, and the data they recovered from HQ confirmed his suspicions. He also opened up to Sheva Alomar about the Spencer Estate Investigation.

Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar made their way through the land of the Ndipaya tribe, oddly coming across tents bearing the logo of "TRICELL", a prominent pharmaceutical company. Upon arriving at the refinery, they ran into Stone, who survived the Ndesu massacre. He stated that Irving would blow up the facility in his escape, and suggested they try to catch Irving at the docks; they failed in their attempt, and only just managed to escape on their own boat before the refinery exploded. Fighting through the oil fields, Chris Redfield caught up with Irving's boat and boarded it, confronting the arms dealer, who out of desperation injected himself with the Dominant Species Plaga and mutated into a giant sea monster. Chris and Shevamanaged to defeat Irving, separating him from his massive husk and flinging him back onto the boat. Before Irving perished, Chris interrogated him about Jill and Uroboros, leading Irving to direct them to a nearby cave.

Upon arriving at the cave, Stone bid farewell to Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar and offered to try sending backup. They proceeded through a large underground ruin and eventually came across an old Umbrella laboratory, where the Progenitor Virus originated from, and more links to "TRICELL". Chris Redfield eventually discovered a large containment room full of capsules used to store test subjects, where he used the control system to search for Jill Valentine. But as the platform descended, he and Sheva Alomar were attacked by a large creature known as U-8, promptly stopping the platform and forcing them to wrestle back control. In the end, Redfield found the capsule empty. Excella Gionne, the co-founder of TRICELL, finally appeared to Chris Redfield, gloating and refusing to reveal Jill Valentine's whereabouts. As he proceeded further into the lab, Chris Redfield overheard a conversation on his comms between Excella Gionne and Albert Wesker, alerting him that Wesker also survived the Spencer Estate incident.

After meeting Excella Gionne in person, they followed her to the Monarch Room, and were ambushed by the cloaked woman before Wesker made his appearance. Chris Redfield demanded to know Valentine's whereabouts and was stunned when Albert Wesker revealed that the cloaked woman was none other than a brainwashed Jill Valentine. Chris and Sheva were overwhelmed by Valentine and Wesker's combined force. However, as Wesker prepared to leave, Chris broke through to Valentine and caused her to struggle against her programming, making Wesker increase Jill pain, turning her primal, inadvertently revealing the mind control device on her chest, which Chris Redfield managed to forcefully remove. While Jill Valentine became dizzy and faint, Chris Redfield was relieved that she was alive and back to her senses. Jill Valentine urged Chris Redfield to stop Wesker before he could finish his preparations, and despite his initial refusal out of concern for her safety, he reluctantly left her to give chase.

Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar pursued Wesker and Excella Gionne aboard a large tanker, fighting their way across the deck of the ship and reaching the inside where they encountered Excella Gionne once again. As they attempt to question her, she flees in a panic, escaping the room and dropping a briefcase containing several injectors of PG67A/W. While not knowing its use, Chris Redfield deduced its importance and kept it. He eventually caught up with Excella Gionne, now limping and writhing in agony after Wesker infected her with Uroboros. Upon her mutation into Uroboros Aheri, Chris and Sheva retreated to the bridge, where they eventually defeated her with a Satellite Laser Device before setting their sights on Wesker.

Shortly before the encounter, Chris received a call from Valentine, who explained that Wesker needed to inject himself with a serum - the same one he recovered from Excella - to keep the virus inside of him stable and that an overdose would poison him. After a tough brawl with Wesker, Chris and Sheva managed to outsmart him and inject the serum into his chest, causing him great pain and forcing a retreat to a stealth bomber, which Chris and Sheva only barely board in time. The fight continued in the cargo bay before Chris managed another injection in Wesker's neck, labeling him as "just another one of Umbrella's leftovers." Taking advantage of Wesker's weakness, Chris opened the cargo door and sent him flying across the room, only for Wesker to desperately cling to Sheva's leg, and as Chris Redfield watched, images of Valentine rushed through his mind as he remembered how he thought he had lost her trying to kill Wesker. Before Sheva Alomar could sacrifice herself by letting go, Chris Redfield managed to grab her, allowing her to shoot Wesker and send him shooting out of the plane.

Crashing into a volcano, Chris and Sheva emerge from the wreckage and witness an enraged Wesker puncturing a container of Uroboros to mutate himself. Forced to retreat, the pair became separated when the ground gave way under Chris Redfield. Chris did his best to fight Wesker on his own, but soon Wesker diverted his attention to a stranded Sheva, forcing Chris to use a huge boulder to bridge the gap between them and regroup. The pair then made their final stand against Wesker and stunned him long enough to have the ground beneath him give way, causing him to fall straight into the lava as Valentine and Josh arrived overhead in a helicopter. While the pair board the chopper, Wesker makes a last ditch effort and stretches his arm to grab the helicopter, but Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar use the onboard RPGs to obliterate Wesker permanently.

In the aftermath, Chris Redfield finally realized what he had been fighting for, and although he felt he had accomplished all that he had set out to do, he knew that it was only a matter of time before someone like Wesker showed up again. For this reason, Chris Redfield decided to go back to working in a team, passing on his knowledge and skills to a new generation for when that day finally came. After the events in Kijuju, Chris Redfield took Valentine back to the United States for rehab and recovery from Wesker's experiments. Shortly after, he received an e-mail from Burton, expressing his relief that they had returned and offering to meet to catch up after they recover from the ordeal in Africa. Posteriorly, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine asked Burton to join BSAA, which he eventually accepts.

Bioterrorism In The United States (2010)[]

Although the American government rarely asked the BSAA for help against bioterrorist actions, still in 2010, there was an incident at a mall that the BSAA had to interfere with. Sending Chris Alpha team to suppress the attack along with Lieutenant Nivans, they managed to clear the area in minutes. When they were finished, they were able to complete the mission without any civilian victims or infected persons. It was at the mall where he met who would be the future BSAA adviser in the Far East branch, Doug Wright, a professor at Bennett University in Singapore.

Subsequently, at one of the TerraSave reunions, Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy met for the first time, thanks to Claire's presentation, and created a friendship that would help break the barrier between the BSAA and the United States government.

Bioterrorism in the Far East (2011-2012)[]

Some time later, the bioterrorism took Chris to the far East. At BSAA headquarters in that region, Professor Wright told him and Nivans about agent Merah Biji, as they watched her train. Both Chris and Nivans then were impressed by the agent's promising talent. Once Biji recognized them and introduced themselves, Redfield watched the training fight between her and Nivans, getting impressed once again that Biji had lasted so long against Nivans, despite her being defeated in the end. In a short time, the three would come to create a friendship and work together.

In 2012, Chris, Nivans and Biji were in an anti-bioterrorist operation in a region of the Far East that was in chaos. On his own, Chris was responsible for eliminating most of the B.O.W.s that were infesting the place. After the operation was over, he met with Nivans and they both decided to accompany Biji to hand over a report about the incident to Wright in order to visit him.

Marhawa School Outbreak (2012)[]

After the mission within Asia, Biji's inability to contact Wright led Chris to head an investigation into the Professor's whereabouts. A visit to Bennett University revealed to Chris that Prof. Wright had traveled with his nephew Ricky Tozawa to the prestigious Marhawa School deep in Asia. Things only grew more suspicious when the group received a request from the father of Yoshihara Yoshihara, a Marhawa student since she had not contacted their family in nine months.

Unwilling to wait any longer, Chris and his partners decided to visit the academy, whether Gracia like it or not. But it was too late; the entire school has fallen into chaos, with zombies rampant throughout the academy. As Nivans and Biji went to annihilate the zombies, Chris found the only survivor; Ricky Tozawa. The two went to rescue Wright from the medication room, but when found the Professor, he had already turned into a zombie, forcing both to kill him. They then found a letter from Gracia that an evacuation helicopter can be reached through the underground maintenance tunnels. Chris brought Ricky to the aforementioned location with Nivans, but Biji chose not to come with them, due to her current objective to apprehend the mutated Bindi Bergara, who was suspected as the attack's perpetrator. Chris advised her that they won't be able to bring down Bergara for now and she must retreat, but Biji disobeyed Chris order by disabling her radio and fought Bergara.

Chris and Ricky headed to the underground tunnel, where they fought the mutated Nanan Yoshihara (now a Lepotica). Chris struggled to defeat her due to the C-Virus gas being triggered whenever he opened fire. It wasn't until Ricky activated the facilities ventilation system that he was able to slice Yoshihara to pieces with his knife. Reuniting then with Biji and Nivans, Chris led the survivors to the helicopter before being attacked once more by Bergara. Forced into a brutal fight with Bergara, Chris and the others finally obliterated the mutated student before he started up the helicopter. Unfortunately, Chris was only able to watch in horror as Biji sacrificed herself to protect Nivans from what remained of Yoshihara, dying in Nivans' arms as they flew out from the academy just before the BSAA reinforcements reached them.

Weeks later, Chris reflected on Ricky's sudden departure with Nivans in a bar, unaware of the horrors to come.

Global Bio-Terror Attacks[]

Edonian Civil War (2012)[]

On December 24, 2012, Chris, Piers and a group consisting of Ben Airhart, Carl Alfonso, Finn Macauley and Andy Walker are dispatched into the Eastern European state of Edonia where the new B.O.W. species known as the J'avo are granted to the rebels in the midst of a civil war. After discussing their plan of attack, Chris provided words of encouragement to Finn, the rookie of the group before moving out. However, as they approached the waypoint Two of Hearts, Chris and his team are ambushed by a troop of heavily armed J'avo, having their Armored Personnel Carriers destroyed in the process. The situation worsened when a massive Ogroman was suddenly released in the battlefield. As Chris and Piers faced the infected creatures, Finn managed to use the remaining APC firepower to injure the giant creature, forcing it to flee.

After the conflict, Chris led his team to the Edonia City Hall. Alpha Team was forced to do another battle as an injured BSAA member was found in the middle of the bridge that connected the Two of Hearts section to the City Hall. Chris proceeded to rescue his fellow soldier as Piers provided cover fire. With Finn's help, Chris managed to rescue the injured soldier. Having crossed the bridge with the Alphas, Chris ordered Finn to blow the bridge up in order to stop the incoming group of J'avo. Eventually, Chris and his squad came across D.S.O. agents Sherry Birkin whom Chris Redfield recognized from Claire's stories and mercenary, Jake Muller who Sherry was tasked with protecting. The introductions, however, are cut short when the group was attacked by a duo of Ogroman. Chris and his squad teamed up with Jake and Sherry to defeat the creatures and brought a helicopter in to take Jake and Sherry to their destination. Before they departed, Chris, believing that Jake looked familiar, asked if they met, but Jake responded in the negative.

Making it to the City Hall, the group encountered numerous Chrysalids and eventually a woman in a blue dress claiming to be Ada Wong who told them that the B.O.W.s including the J'avo are created by the C-Virus and an organisation calling themselves Neo Umbrella are the ones that supplied the virus to the rebels. Though suspicious about her, Chris agreed to escort her out of the building, only to fall into a trap. "Ada" cut Chris and Piers off from the rest of the group and trapped the other four in a cage before launching a Needle Bomb that infected Andy, Carl, Ben, and Finn with the C-Virus. Chris and Piers could only look on helplessly as their squad mates mutated into Chrysalids and hatched into Napads which proceeded to attack. Chris was beaten senseless by the mutated Finn and had to be dragged to safety by Nivans. The duo was saved by the BSAA support troops who killed their mutated comrades and an unconscious Chris was taken to a nearby hospital.

Amnesia[]

Upon regaining consciousness in the hospital, Chris suffered from post-traumatic amnesia and he was unable to remember who he was or what occurred. However, wracked by an overwhelming amount of guilt, Chris ran away from the hospital before anyone could check on him. For the next six months, hoping to dull the pain, Chris became a moody and violent drunk, staying in a hotel and frequenting a bar in Eastern Europe where the female bartender and the patrons called him "the stray dog" and gained a reputation as the bar's worst customer. Chris also made some money to fund his rent and bar tab by doing bodyguard work. Meanwhile, Piers and the BSAA worked to track him down.

By June 2013, Chris, now a mere shadow of his former self, was finally tracked down by Piers at the bar that he frequented. When he was asked to leave by the bartender, he responds that he has "nowhere to go". Another patron stepped in to help her, only for Chris to snap and physically attack the man, nearly hitting him with a bottle before Piers stepped in. After expressing his disgust about how far Chris fell, Piers forced Chris to confront his past by showing him the images of their deceased comrades and the tragedy in Edonia to little avail. However, when Chris recognized the BSAA logo on Nivans' jacket, all of the bar's patrons revealed themselves to be undercover BSAA operators while Pears Nivans told Chris Redfield that he belonged with him, and they are taking him back to duty by any means necessary.

Lanshiang Incident (2013)[]

Though still unable to recall the incident, Chris Redfield agreed to return and was quickly dispatched to Waiyip in the Chinese city of Lanshiang which was in the midst of another Neo Umbrella bioterror attack. The mission was to raid a building call-signed Ace of Spades where a few captured UN members are held hostage by the bioterrorists. Crossing the streets, Alpha Team immediately came into contact with the J'avo which was the same type of B.O.W. fought in Edonia. Approaching the Ace of Spades through the roofs, Redfield and his squad managed to neutralize the incoming infected.

Once inside the building, the hostages are released. However, BSAA's HQ ordered an air strike to the area as Chris and Piers barely escaped. Upon seeing a cluster of Chrysalids, Chris Redfield finally recalled the Edonia incident and vowed to get revenge on "Ada" for the deaths of his men. On their way, a BSAA soldier was attacked by an invisible monster. Redfield decided to chase the creature and put it down.

They soon encountered Jake and Sherry who went missing since Edonia and protected them from the swarms of J'avo. However, when Piers Nivans suggested that they should escort the two, Chris Redfield coldly reminded him about their mission and departed. Making their way through the slums of Waiyip's Poisawan district, they are attacked by the Iluzija, a massive snake B.O.W. with camouflage capabilities. The abomination brutally killed all of them, one by one until only Nivans, Marco Rose and Redfield himself was left. With the assistance of his fellow soldiers, Redfield fried the monster using the building's electrical system. Unfortunately, "Ada" reappeared and shot Marco with a C-Virus-equipped dart before escaping. Marco rapidly mutated into a Gnezdo, forcing Chris and Piers to kill him.

Some time after a brief fight with each other, Chris and Piers were later ambushed by a helicopter in the Waiyip river, though they managed to destroy the armored vehicle. Seeing "Ada" enter a warehouse, Chris and Piers entered in pursuit of her, unaware that Leon S. Kennedy and Helena Harper were doing the same. Though they managed to corner her, Kennedy arrived just in time and prevented Redfield from shooting her, resulting in a brief fight between the two before they drew their guns on each other. Kennedy told Redfield that "Ada" was a key witness and that they needed her alive, while Redfield shouted that "Ada" was the actual mastermind behind everything, only to be told by Kennedy that the real culprit was none other than national security adviser Derek C. Simmons. Though Chris Redfield told Leon Kennedy that he lost all of his men because of "Ada," Leon replied that he lost over 70,000 people, including President Adam Benford, because of Simmons, and made it clear that he planned on defending "Ada" despite full knowledge of her allegiance to Neo-Umbrella.

In the midst of the confrontation, "Ada" used a Flash Grenade to escape from the four. Chris and Piers began to pursue her, but Kennedy stopped Redfield and told him that they both wanted the same thing. Finally snapping out of his revenge-fuelled rampage, Redfield resolved to stop "Ada" in the name of justice rather than vengeance, leaving it up to Kennedy and Helena to take care of Simmons.

Chris and Piers pursued "Ada" to the docks in a turret-equipped Jeep, managing to get on her freighter and corner her on the bridge, where "Ada" revealed her master plan: to spread the C-Virus all over the world and recreate the Raccoon City Incident on a global scale. However, just as she told them this, one of Simmons' henchmen arrived in a helicopter and promptly shot her in the chest, causing her to fall to her death. However, she left behind her suitcase, which contained a syringe full of an enhanced strain of the C-Virus.

Chris and Piers subsequently learned that a nearby ship was equipped with air-burst missiles filled with the C-Virus in gas form, aimed right at the mainland. Hijacking a harrier jet, they attacked the freighter but were ultimately unable to stop the missile launch, which quickly turned most of the city of Tatchi's population into zombies. Afterward, Chris was contacted by Kennedy, who requested that he save Jake and Sherry from their imprisonment in Neo Umbrella's underwater facility. During this conversation, Redfield was shocked to discover that not only did Jake possess antibodies to the C-Virus, but he was also Albert Wesker's son.

Making their way to the facility, Chris decided to retire from active duty after they rescued Jake and Sherry and pass his position on to Piers. When they met up with them, Redfield revealed that he was the one who killed Jake's father, leading to a tense moment in which Jake held him at gunpoint. Chris admitted that he had every right to shoot him, but Jake managed to stop himself, telling Chris that there were more important things at stake than the two of them.

On their way out, however, the ultimate B.O.W. HAOS which was meant to spread the C-Virus all over the world as Carla intended, hatched from its cocoon and attacked. As Jake and Sherry made their escape, Chris Redfield and Piers Nivans remained behind to destroy HAOS. During the fight, HAOS severely damaged the facility and managed to grab a hold of Chris, while Piers suffered a severe injury that crippled his right arm. With no other way to save Chris Redfield, Piers Nivans deliberately injected himself with the C-Virus strain they had previously procured, gaining the ability to shoot electrical blasts. Now fully regenerated, HAOS broke out of its chrysalid and attacked the two agents. However, its decreased size and vulnerability allowed Piers Nivans to shoot electrical attacks that enabled Redfield to equip his combat knife and attack its vulnerable organs which badly damaged the creature. It made a final attempt to kill Piers Nivans but Chris Redfield was able to rescue him and the two of them destroyed the B.O.W.s remaining organ, supposedly killing it.

Though Chris repeatedly reassured Piers that he would be all right and they would get out of there as they made their way to the escape pods, Piers, realizing that he would eventually lose control and mutate completely, deliberately shut Redfield into an escape pod alone and launched him out, remaining behind to die with the facility. However, HAOS had recovered and attacked Chris Redfield's escape pod in the water, only to be electrocuted and finally destroyed by an electrical blast from Piers Nivans' transformed arm just before the facility exploded. The following morning, Chris was rescued by the BSAA.

After the Lanshiang Incident, Chris Redfield continued to serve in the BSAA as a field Captain, deciding to honor Piers Nivans' memory by turning his retirement down. At one point, he went back to the same bar that he routinely visited in June, though now able to remember his identity and overcame his drinking problem. A BSAA soldier under his command interrupted his meal, informing him that HQ had new orders for them. He then left the bar and went on his next mission against bioterrorism.

The Mojave Desert and Sonido de Tortuga Incident (2014)[]

In 2014, a year after the events of Lanshiang, Chris returned to active duty. He received a phone call from Claire asking for backup but was unable to assist due to being on a mission with the BSAA in the Mojave Desert. He instead sent a team led by Parker Luciani to Sonido de Tortuga Island to help his sister.

Glenn Arias and the New York Outbreak (2014)[]

Following the events of Lanshiang, Chris was brought in to supervise a sting by the Mexican government against wanted weapons dealer Glenn Arias, rumored to be in possession of B.O.W.s and to rescue missing BSAA operator Kathy White and her son, Zack, who had both vanished in the midst of pursuing Arias.

Upon arriving at a seemingly abandoned mansion in Querétaro, Chris and the team were ambushed by hordes of zombies, including Zack, before Chris witnessed a strange new mutation from a bitten soldier. Forced to retreat, Chris jumped out of a window on the second floor of the mansion, only to come face to face with Arias. As Chris was badly injured due to the fall, Arias quickly disarmed Chris and was able to overpower him in hand-to-hand combat before introducing the now-zombified Kathy, who seemed to only attack Chris, while avoiding Glenn and his allies. While Chris was soon rescued by a BSAA unit, he swore revenge against Arias, devastated by the loss of the unit. His mission to stop Arias soon brought him and his team to New York City, where he rescued Rebecca Chambers from an outbreak of the same virus from Mexico. Chambers explained that the mysterious virus contained traits similar to the Plaga parasite used by Los-Iluminados, leading Chris to take her in order to meet Leon Kennedy in Colorado.

Chris argued with a drunk and defeated Leon Kennedy to ask for his help, as Rebbecca Chambers managed to convince Leon to provide some intel about Los-Iluminados. Patricio, the man who sold out Kennedy's unit, arrived just in time and is interrogated by Chris and Leon. Suddenly, Maria Gomez and Diego Gomez attacked them. Chambers is kidnapped in the process, and a mortally wounded Patricio dies after telling Kennedy to protect his family. As the new threat outcomes, threatening the lives of New York populace and Rebbecca himself, Leon agrees to join Chris in his mission to bring down Arias.

Chris leads his platoon to New York City, briefing his mission objectives to his unit: stop the virus spread in the city, rescue Rebbecca and eliminate Arias. As they departed in the city, Chris and Leon took an armored Humvee and a Ducati, respectively, both vehicles provided by the BSAA. The two battle their way to Arias, blowing the trucks with has the virus inside. During the attack, Damien is killed by a pair of Cerberus-A. Kennedy leads the dogs away in his motorcycle as Chris rushes to Arias' base. Entering the hideout, Chris is contacted by Arias who tells him about the improved A-Virus strain Rebbecca Chambers was recently infected with and even asks Chris Redfield if he has the courage to put her down if it ever comes to it.

After that, Arias unleashes a horde of zombies to deal with Chris but it ended up being a failed attempt. During this battle, Chris proficiently made use of his marksman and hand-to-hand combat skills, completely annihilating the first horde of the infected before the arrival of Leon. Chris then made his way to the laboratory where Rebbecca was being held, killing two mercenaries and confronting Diego in the process. Chris sustained two heavy blows from Diego but managed to come out on top thanks to a flame grenade he used as a last resort. He then proceeded to threaten the doctor with his Beretta 93R who quickly spilled the beans about the location of the vaccine.

After learning what he needed to know, Chris grabbed Rebbecca and carried her up to the rooftop, only to be surprised by Arias who was monitoring Chris progress through his cameras. Both men fired on each other but failed to land a clean hit due to both of them being in a cover position. Chris then rushed Arias, resorting to close-range combat, using both hand-to-hand and his firearms.

The battle ground to a stalemate, with the stakes rising when the pair ended up fighting on a glass roof. Chris managed to defeat Arias by applying a Sumi Gaeshi Judo throw, causing Arias to go through the glass and falling to his inevitable death. After winning the fight against Arias, Chris reunited with Rebbecca and started his search for her vaccine.

However, Diego approached Arias in his dying state and triggered his final stage and both of them became one, resulting in a Tyrant-like mutation. The creature ambushed Chris Redfield while he was carrying Rebbecca Chambers but the captain was unable to avoid its grasp due to his previous battles. Lucky for him, Leon Kennedy intervened and attracted the creature's attention. Leon Kennedy was unable to be a match for the creature despite successfully dodging its attacks at the beginning of the encounter. However, the creature grabbed a hold of Leon Kennedy just like it did with Chris Redfield but the agent was saved by BSAA operator Nadia who shot the mutant with a railgun. The creature then turned its attention to the aircraft and attacked it. As a last resort, Leon Kennedy used the Ducati in an attempt to finish off Ariego but that merely slowed it down and the creature still lived but, lucky for everyone, Chris Redfield appeared at the nick of time and shot a grenade at the creature's heart, obliterating it completely.

After yet another successful mission, Chris, Leon, Rebbecca, Nadia, and DC proceeded to spread the vaccine around New York, curing the recently infected citizens who then turned back to normal. In the end, they all smiled back at each other and the New York City bioterrorist attack was over with the majority of the city's population being saved.

San Francisco Serial Murders and Alcatraz Outbreak (2015)[]

A year after the New York bioterrorist attack, the BSAA receives intel about mysterious infection cases happening across the city of San Francisco, California where victims are infected and turned without the means of transmitting of one's infection to another with Chris Redfield once again teamed up with his longtime partner, Jill Valentine who is newly recovered from a six year long rehab in a joint investigation with San Francisco Police Department.

They receive intel about another attack in a residence in San Francisco where Jill heads inside the apartment first despite orders from him were to wait for backup but is cut off from the comms. Chris leads a team of SWAT inside the house where they find a bloody Jill inside with Redfield admonishing her for recklessly rushing in without backup but Jill justifies that the possibility of survivors diminishing every seconds passed. The house is cleared with the corpses taken in for further examination and analysis.

Chris Redfield pays a visit to Rebbecca Chambers who gives him updates regarding the case with victims having no bite wounds but left only needle marks on their bodies as well as infected with advanced strain of t-virus which is not transmissible through saliva or airborne. Chris confides in Rebbecca about the recent defiant Jill becoming reckless on their operations with the latter recognizing that it's due to her guilt manifesting with her actions act as atonements for her crimes while being controlled under Wesker.

Chris visits Jill in a shooting range who he wants to recuse from participating the operation due to his growing concerns to which the latter firmly declines. The former recounts her years under Wesker's control to which she compares it to a nightmare with Redfield sharing his traumatic experience of his partner Piers Nivans who he had intended to take over before sacrificing himself for his survival. As the war on bioterrorism continues, Chris Redfield warns not to let the numbness reach to her soul less than she lose herself in the fight, Jill Valentine reasons that innocent people are used as bioweapons each day and cannot allow to think of herself when fighting to stop bioterrorist. Before Redfield can further elaborate, Valentine resume of her activities.

Shortly afterwards, his sister Claire Redfield arrives to brief them on her findings on the beach where an mutilated orca had washed ashore on the beach of San Francisco with t-virus discovered in its remains as well as missing whales that had been last swimming around the vicinity of Alcatraz Island. Rebbecca Chambers discovers that all of the victims had been visiting the tourist attraction shortly before their demise. Finding their next lead, the Chris, Claire and Jill travels to Alcatraz to further investigate the matter. On the boat, Rebbecca informs Chris of the possibility of creating the vaccine to the strain similar to the others that they already had for much to his delight.

The three blend themselves in as tourists where they intend to break off from the main group to investigate, unbeknownst to the trio who are being monitored by the mastermind behind the San Francisco Serial Murders. The tourist are soon infected with the virus much to their confusion as the trio attempts to save remaining tourists but fails, leaving them as the only survivors of the group with Valentine separated from the siblings. Chris attempt to contact Jill but find that the signals have been jammed with the sibling argue about their next objective until they discover another survivor named Tony Davis who hides in a cart.

Elsewhere in the prison, Tony Davis accompanied the Chris Redfield siblings in their search for survivors where the two latter introduce themselves to Davis who learns that Claire Redfield is apart of the Terrasave group and incorrectly assumes that they were the culprit behind Harvardville Airport outbreak. The trio are briefly ambushed by the infected but manage to survive with Davis who is injured in the attack with Claire tending to his wounds much to his surprise, Chris tells Davis that they tend to everyone's wounds even if they are bad. Suddenly, both are pricked with drones and faints, leaving them captured and hold in the prison cells.

Chris is hold in a cell next to his sister and Tony's where they started to exhibit symptoms of the virus. Leon S. Kennedy and Valentine show up to their cells where Leon recognizes that Tony is Dr. Antonio Taylor, a robotics engineer that is wanted by the government for leaking military secrets to outside groups. The mastermind reveal themselves to be former mercenary Dylan Blake and Arias's assistant María Gómez with the former revealed to have affiliated with Arias and his goal of wanting to punish corporations, organizations and agencies that are benefitting from bioterrorism including DSO, BSAA and Terrasave without working real solutions towards ending bio-terror, Dylan plots to release Mosquito Drones which contains strains of t-virus and spread across the world, leaving him to control which individuals gets infected and clean the world's slate. Further explaining his point, he ridicules Chris for having people die on every mission he’s on and keeps bringing more, only to lose their lives again. Dylan forces Jill to make the decision to kill Claire before Taylor's demise at her hands. Unwilling to decide, Dylan fatally shoots Taylor. As Claire tries to staunch the bleeding, Taylor asks their resolve to keep fighting even in bleak situations to which Claire Redfield admits the world is messed up with the solution of destroying it is easy but doing right by it is hard. Shortly after, Taylor dies but not before giving Claire an backdoor code to the network.

Having lost contact with them for hours, Rebbecca Chambers arrives at the island and cures everyone of their affiliations before joining them on the armory, confronting the mutated Dylan who had injected himself with the virus and fused with a infected shark. The five fires caches of weapons onto the creature which does little to no damage. Leon tasks Claire and Rebbecca with inputting backdoor code on the console while the rest confront the entity. Having found a short plasma rifle, Jill Valentine requests Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy to hold the creature in place while charging to full capacity, they successfully lure the creature and separate it from its lower half but the attack fails to stop the beast as it continues its rampage, nearly killing them. Claire Redfield and Chambers manages to redirect the bio-drones towards the creature, injecting doses of t-virus and rendering weaken. The creature attempts to escape through the ocean but Redfield and Leon Kennedy severs the chains of floodgate, pinning by the neck. Jill Valentine delivers the killing blow as the creature is strapped with bags of grenades and blown up.

Outside, the five reminiscent about the operation before reinforcements arrived and evacuate the survivors off the premises with Chris expressing gratitude that her old self is back to which she share the same sentiment.

Dulvey Incident (2017)[]

Shortly before July 2017, Blue Umbrella asked the BSAA to send Chris for assistance for upcoming missions in Dulvey, Louisiana, which he begrudgingly accepts as he didn't fully trust them. The goal of the mission was to apprehend Lucas Baker, a suspected associate of the criminal organisation The Connections, who was in possession of the Mold bioweapon.

Just as his unit arrived at the Baker residence, they witnessed the B.O.W. known as Eveline in her mutated form erupt from the house and attack civilian Ethan Winters. Chris Redfield's team assisted Ethan by dropping him an Albert-01 handgun loaded with Ramrods to finish the monster off. After the battle, Chris had Ethan and his wife Mia evacuated via helicopter.

Chris continued his operation, looking for a missing unit of three soldiers in the salt mine while pursuing Lucas. Although Chris Redfield soon found the first missing soldier, he was attacked by Lucas, who attached a plastic explosive to Chris Redfield's arm shortly before detonating another explosive which killed the hostage. Instead of turning back to remove the bomb, Chris instead decided to move forward, as he refused to let Lucas escape. After HQ confirmed Lucas' relationship with The Connections, he boldly proceeded through the mines in search of the other two operators, Throughout Redfield’ exploration, he encountered the WM series of Molded and located the other two missing operators - however, Lucas soon killed them both through his traps and then set off the timer on Chris Redfield bomb. With the help of HQ, Chris found liquid nitrogen to freeze the bomb and dispose of it.

HQ suggested to Chris Redfield to check beyond a shield door, where once inside, Lucas locked Chris Redfield in and set it on fire. Unbeknownst to Lucas, Chris was able to survive the trap, and Umbrella intercepted his email to an unidentified buyer which informed them he was about to send the data, which Chris Redfield ultimately had to prevent from happening altogether. Now with the element of surprise, Chris Redfield caught up to Lucas but was jumped by him and attacked with a knife which forced Chris Redfield to shoot him, inadvertently triggering Lucas' mutation into a large monster. This meant Chris had no choice but to kill him, and after a short battle Redfield was able to eliminate Lucas, shooting up Lucas' hard drives to prevent the data transfer and being called back to Umbrella.

At an undisclosed time, Ethan requested that Redfield search for Zoe Baker in hopes of saving her. Weeks later, Chris Redfield responded to Umbrella forces calling for backup at a base they set up in front of the mansion. His team arrived to find that the unit was unfortunately wiped out, but that Zoe was safe with her uncle, Joe Baker. After moving everyone to a lab tent, Chris Redfield called Ethan to inform him of Zoe's successful rescue and handed over the phone to her so the two could finally reconnect.

Appearance[]

Chris was developed to be the typical "tough guy" type, commonly found in action movies: spiked hair, bare muscular build and likes combat knives. The color of his hair is naturally brown in some FMV scenes and his CGI appearance from the current games until the end of Resident Evil 6.

In the original Resident Evil, Chris wears the standard uniform of S.T.A.R.S. His clothing consists of a white t-shirt underneath a green Vietnam War era M69 flak vest (the vest features a knife case at the left breast), gray pants, holster, knee-pads and black combat boots. The uniform did not show any change in the REmake of the game and was also used in the "Mansion Incident" scenario, from Umbrella Chronicles. Although in Resident Evil 5, Chris wears this outfit, as an extra costume, with a minor alteration. Instead of the original white t-shirt, Chris now wears a white button down dress shirt, with the sleeves rolled up into small cuffs. In the FMV scenes and the ending, the color of his pants is blue and his white shirt is covered in dirt and it was not seen without the green flak vest. In Jill's scenario of both the original version and the REmake, it is implied that Wesker somehow managed to capture him and locked him up at the prison in the Arklay Laboratory around the time Jill and Barry went to investigate the Tea Room for a gunshot.

In Chris' Resident Evil 3: Nemesis epilogue, he wears a white shirt with a brown jacket, the same alternative outfit from the original Resident Evil. The back of his jacket has the same Made in Heaven logo as his sister, Claire, has on the back of her vest in Resident Evil 2.

In Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, Chris hair becomes dark brown in his CGI appearance and gains two fringes in the center of his head while in the FMV and the reimagined Game of Oblivion, his hair remains black minus the two fringes. His eyes in his in-game appearance are dark blue eyes, while in the FMV cutscenes, his eyes are naturally brown.

He wears a variation of his S.T.A.R.S. uniform. It consists of a green button down dress shirt (with sleeves rolled up into small cuffs) with an R.P.D. - S.T.A.R.S. black vest, green pants and black boots. The vest has a large S.T.A.R.S. logo on the back. The outfit is later seen in the Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles scenario, "Game of Oblivion" and as his alternate outfit in Resident Evil REmake.

In the epilogue of Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, Chris green button down dress shirt that he wears remains the same as he wears blue jeans with a brown belt and black shoes. This is his casual outfit where he reluctantly goes with his younger sister, Claire after the incident.

In the Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles scenario, "Umbrella's End," Chris wears winter attire that consists of a white coat, black gloves, green M69 flak vest, white pants and black combat boots. The knife sheath is now on the right leg, and in its place on the vest, there is a walkie-talkie radio. (This costume can be used in Darkside Chronicles if unlocked under special requirements, along with a non-canon Sheriff's costume).

In Resident Evil: Revelations, Chris's hair is now brown and he gains small bangs on his head. This hairstyle is also used in Resident Evil 5.

He first appears wearing winter tactical gear and a white beanie hat. Later in the game, he wears his standard uniform of BSAA (very similar to the uniforms used by Josh Stone and Dan DeChant), previously seen in the Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition scenario, "Lost in Nightmares" as the color of his outfit is black and green.

In "Lost in Nightmares" Chris now wears a white down button down dress shirt (with sleeves rolled up into small cuffs) with a light green flak vest, khaki pants with green knee pads on each side of his knees and brown combat boots. He also wears black fingerless gloves and a radio with a headset.

In Resident Evil 5, Chris is initially seen in a casual safari outfit at the beginning of the game. After finding Reynard Fisher, Chris removes the safari jacket and puts on his military equipment. Chris is seen in the standard attire for the BSAA: green shirt with logos of the BSAA on both sleeves, a large sheath for his machete on the back, radio with a headset, black gloves, a flashlight on his belt, PDA, holster on the right leg, knee-pads and green shoes. Later, the player can equip him with the Melee vest and/or the Bulletproof vest. Extra costumes include the S.T.A.R.S., Safari, Warrior, and Heavy Metal

In Resident Evil 6, Chris hair is brown and was cut into a military style haircut. But in his intro and his ending, his hair appears to be dark brown.

During the Edonia, Eastern Europe section, Chris wears a winter BSAA uniform featuring a gray, long-sleeved shirt, matching pants, black combat boots, and a green bulletproof vest.

During the Lanshiang, China section, he wears an outfit similar to his Resident Evil 5 attire, albeit with different boots, gloves and a slightly different shirt.

He wears a blue green and khaki shirt with logos of the BSAA on both sleeves with a light green flak combat vest with several pockets on front, camouflage pants with brown gun holsters on each side of his thighs, green knee pads on both knees and brown combat boots.

When meeting with Piers at the bar and in his epilogue, he was seen wearing a black trench coat with a black turtleneck undershirt, gray pants and black shoes.

In Resident Evil: Vendetta, Chris has small full bangs on his head and a facial beard.

His outfit in the movie is his Lanshiang outfit in Resident Evil 6 but in a minor color change. His shirt is now light blue green and gray with a black sleeveless turtleneck underneath, his light green flak combat vest is darker, his knee pads are white, his pants are gray and his combat boots are black.

In the movie, Resident Evil: Death Island, Chris is initially seen in his Lanshiang outfit in Resident Evil 6 while he and his BSAA team including his long-time partner, Jill Valentine had investigated the zombie outbreak in San Francisco, California. His BSAA shirt are now in a shades of teal. In his visit to the Alcatraz Island alongside Jill and his sister, Claire, he wears a gray short sleeved open hawaiian button-up shirt with a blue gray short sleeved fitted shirt underneath, greenish khaki cargo jeans with a dark gray belt around his waist and reddish brown shoes. He also wears a silver sports watch on his left wrist. He later removes his hawaiian button-up shirt when they finally fought the zombies during the ambush caused by Dylan inside the penitentiary at Alcatraz Island despite saving the tourists who happens to be infected by the T-Virus from a mosquito bite.

In Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Chris hair remains dark brown and has spiky ends on his forehead. He wears an outfit similar to his BSAA winter attire in Resident Evil 6; his long sleeved shirt is dark green, his bulletproof vest is black with several pouches where he keeps his grenades, his military pants are now black with matching gun holsters where he keeps his handguns and black combat boots. He also adorned a green military combat helmet mixed with a black oxygen mask to make him breathe and to avoid being contaminated. He would use the oxygen tank to restore his breathing from his oxygen mask.

In the Resident Evil: Village, Chris regains his hairstyle and facial beard from the movie Resident Evil: Vendetta. His hair is now dark brown as the lighting effect in the beginning shows his hair being grayish brown. He also has small wrinkles on his eyebags due to his present age.

His main outfit in the game is his casual attire in Resident Evil 6 but it was entirely black. The collar of his black trench coat is large and his pants are now black to match up his outfit. He is now equipped with black gloves. Later when he is a playable character and assisting Ethan after he had defeated Miranda, Chris removes his trench coat and the sleeves from his black turtleneck are fitted. He was equipped with an olive green shoulder holster where he keeps his heavy firearms, grenades and a radio signal. He also has a radio mic at the right side of his head.

Personality[]

Chris is close to his friends and family, specifically with his younger sister Claire and his partner Jill Valentine, whom he would both willingly give his life to protect. He also establishes bonds with the people he works with, respects (Rebecca Chambers and Albert Wesker for example) or admires. He cares deeply for the life of innocents, something which caused him to argue with his superiors in the military. Chris has a long-standing friendship with Barry Burton, who was an old friend of Chris' family. Barry was the one who recruited Chris for the Special Tactics And Rescue Service after Chris had left the Air Force and began drifting.

Serving as Point Man in S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team, Chris earned the trust of his comrades. In particular, Chris developed a close friendship with Jill Valentine, the only female member of S.T.A.R.S. at the time.

Forest Speyer, the sharpshooter of the S.T.A.R.S Bravo Team, was once a great friend (and rival) of Chris, until the Mansion Incident in 1998, where Forest was brutally killed and turned into a zombie.

After the Mansion Incident, Chris became obsessed with the Umbrella Corporation, seeking information to bring the company down and avenge the deaths of his friends. Later, Chris and Jill formed a lethal organization to combat Umbrella together, the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance, aka, the BSAA.

Formerly, during his activity in S.T.A.R.S., Chris exhibited great respect for the S.T.A.R.S Alpha Team leader, Albert Wesker, who recognised Chris as his most skilled team member. However, since Chris ruined, or at least delayed Wesker's plans at the Spencer mansion, a powerful grudge formed between them. Their encounters thereafter were always intense and violent.

During the Il Veltro incident, Chris was shown to be a generic and a typical "soldier", focusing only on the mission and disregarding his partner Jessica's advances. When asked by her whether he trusted her or not, he remarked "Trust is measured by actions, not words" to which Jessica replies "That's so like you, Chris. It's always about the job, isn't it?" Chris holds a level of professionalism; he never once berated Jessica for her flirting and simply focused on the mission. But, when Jill was in danger, he promptly switched his focus entirely into rescuing her.

During a BSAA mission to capture Ozwell E. Spencer, Jill sacrificed herself to save Chris from Wesker, while he was unable to protect Jill. Jill's perceived death was a very serious blow to Chris personally. Ever since that encounter, he became distant and cold-hearted. It also psychologically scarred him such as when Wesker opened the cargo door in the Stealth Bomber's cargo bay and Sheva Alomar was almost pulled out of the aircraft to her death. During the confrontation in the cargo bay of the bomber, Chris had a flashback of Jill's supposed death and how he was unable to do anything to protect Jill. This made him impulsively/instinctively endanger himself to not repeat the same mistake with Sheva.

In RE5 proper, Chris is initially shown to have a cold acceptance towards most of the grisly circumstances presented in the mission and shows little concern for its location or who he'll be working with.

Immediately after meeting Sheva, she asks him if he would "rather be in America than in a place like this".

Chris dismisses the notion, noting that America "has its own dark side". Sheva notes his lack of patriotism, and Chris merely states that he's a realist, noting that America is "a capitalist society" and that "not everyone is cut out for that kind of pressure". He considers that there are opportunities to be had, but as far as he sees it, "at a price". "If you gain, someone else loses."

When Sheva points out that he doesn't sound like any American that she's ever met, he responds with "The great thing about Americans is that we're all different".

Following the battle with the first Uroboros B.O.W. he and Sheva encountered, Chris mentions that if they had arrived sooner to assist DeChant and the rest of the Delta Team, they would've most likely been dead as well. A substantial part of his driving force during this time is seeking out Jill after he receives intel. The possibility that she might still be alive. Sheva has doubts about his "personal stake" in the mission, but later appreciates how much he cares for his old partner. With this, Sheva developed a close bond with Chris, deciding to stay and fight right alongside him to help him save Jill and takedown Wesker.

In episode one of the Resident Evil 5 viral campaign, entitled "Ceremony", Chris is about to receive an award for his courageous performance in Kijuju, but is hindered from delivering his speech by a sudden onset of violent memories from his mission.

This could be considered as an indicator of post-traumatic stress disorder, which could plague Chris after the events of Resident Evil 5.

Chris's reactions to the various threats he has faced, vary over the years and change with his experience.

During his initial encounters with zombies and B.O.W.s in the Spencer Mansion, he was angered that it was all set up by Wesker (though in truth, the outbreak was caused by James Marcus; Wesker simply took advantage of the situation).

Following the events at Rockfort Island and the Antarctic Facility, Chris begins to categorize people like Albert Wesker into simple criminal personalities, refusing to acknowledge their views and immediately dismissing them as evil.

This is most apparent during his first encounter with Sergei Vladimir, where he refers to him as "another Umbrella psycho", despite the latter's various machinations since before the Mansion incident.

Chris then views Wesker's world plan in Kijuju with the same disdain. After he and Sheva board Wesker's stealth bomber, he is even sarcastic about the serious implications of Wesker's ambitions, going so far as to mock Wesker for taking his plans from "comic book villains" and dismissing him as "just another of Umbrella's leftovers."

By the time Wesker was killed, Chris is confident that living in a world without fear is worth fighting for, and the cause of fighting bioterrorism exceeds all personal costs.

During the events of Resident Evil 6, Chris shows deep concern for his comrades and men. He is very quick to assure rookie BSAA operative, Finn Macauley, that his teammates have his back and that "No one gets left behind." He shows his anger when his men die in the line of duty. This was further shown when Leon S. Kennedy prevents him from stopping the woman in the blue dress, with Chris angrily stating "I lost all my men because of her!". Despite this and the fact that he and Leon hadn't interacted much in person, he did seem to respect Leon highly, as Leon was the only one able to snap Chris out of his vengeful rampage. During the events in Lanshiang, Chris's focus was entirely on catching Carla, and his reckless pursuit of her cost the lives of several of his men. Chris calmed down somewhat after being confronted by his second in command, Piers Nivans and regained most of his composure after his heated standoff with Leon. Due to the many years of battles against Umbrella's legacy, Chris revealed his intention to retire from duty to his partner, stating that he "cannot let this war follow him". Chris resolved that his final mission would be to rescue Jake, and asked that Piers take his place, despite his partner's lack of confidence in his ability to succeed him. When confronting Jake Muller for the first time in Edonia, he notices something familiar about him, noting the features of Albert Wesker. Months later when saving him from the Underwater facility, he learns that Jake is the son of Albert Wesker and mentions to Jake that he was the one to kill his father and allows Jake to fire at him for killing his father. Jake misses the shot on purpose and states that there are more important things at stake. When asked by Piers why he revealed such information to Jake, Chris to Jake had every right to know what happened to his father, no matter what grudge he had against Wesker.

At the end of Chris's campaign in Resident Evil 6, Piers Nivans, his second in command, sacrificed his life for him, by injecting himself with the vial containing the C-Virus that they retrieved from Carla to save Chris from HAOS. After HAOS's assumed defeat, Chris attempts to escape the facility with Piers into an escape pod, but Piers refuses and pushes Chris into the escape pod, having slipped his B.S.A.A. patch over to Chris without him noticing earlier. Getting up and seeing that Piers had shut the door, Chris ordered him to open the door, but Piers didn't follow his orders. As the escape pod was sent out into the sea, Chris observed as the underwater facility was collapsing, leading to HAOS being freed from the facility. HAOS clutched onto Chris escape pod but was electrocuted by a powerful jolt of electricity, similar to the ability Piers gained from the C-Virus, suggesting that he had saved Chris once again. As the only surviving member of his team by the conclusion of the Lanshiang Incident, Chris, still shaken by the deaths of his soldiers, decides to continue his fight against the bioterrorism to honour his fallen comrades and Piers great sacrifice.

In the events of Resident Evil: Vendetta, Chris maintains his personality from Resident Evil 6 but has become very determined to protect and rescue his comrades, including Rebecca Chambers. He even consoles Leon, who had also lost his comrades during a mission.

In Resident Evil: Death Island, Chris became more concerned towards Jill who is guilt over hurting her comrades after being freed from Wesker's control and her rehabilitation as well as her actions during their missions in San Francisco. During their trip in Alcatraz Island after saving Antonio Taylor who poses as Tony Davis, Chris has a fatherly streak to his sister, Claire when she was mad at Antonio for calling TerraSave as terrorists. Chris also displays his brave and determination while siding with both Leon and Jill in battling the mutated Dylan.

In Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Chris assists the protagonist Ethan Winters by providing him with the gun to eliminate Eveline as well as retaining his skills during his confrontation with the mutated Lucas Baker.

In Resident Evil: Village, It is apparent that Chris's personality has dramatically changed, changing his role from being a hero to being an anti-hero, shown as he and his men infiltrated the Winters Family's residence and mercilessly killed "Mia Winters" by shooting her multiple times with a suppressed gun as well as letting Ethan witness Chris take his infant daughter Rosemary Winters away from him. Chris acts cold and serious when one of his men brings Ethan to him, who angrily states that Chris killed "Mia" and that he should kill him as well and "finish the job". Attempting to explain the situation to Ethan, Chris is interrupted by "Canine" (Dion Wilson) who informs him of the serious motion readings nearby and suggests that they should move on. After a brief conversation with Canine, they are attacked by a mutated fish which comes from Salvadore Moreau. It is later revealed that the "Mia" Chris shot in the beginning had been Miranda in disguise. He also finally explains to Ethan why his group had taken Rose away, seeing that Miranda was targeting both Ethan and Rose. When Ethan was mortally incapacitated by Miranda, Chris transitions back to being a hero and learns from his mistakes and carelessness, leading him to rescue the real Mia Winters and assisting Ethan in fighting the mutated Miranda. However he was saddened and upset when Ethan sacrifices himself by activating the bomb he stole from him to make their escape and to save his wife and daughter but also displays his disappointment when he learns that the BSAA had sent soldiers who were actually B.O.Ws, leading his decision to get through the BSAA Headquarters in Europe.

Evidence[]

Received awards for his accuracy[]

In both BBC and RPD, Chris was known for his skills with several types of weapons. While serving in the Air Force, he won a competition because of his fast and accurate shooting, and as an S.T.A.R.S. operative, he won trophies at shooting competitions. He even coached his sister Claire and close friend Jill Valentine, as well as several future BSAA members. Although this has not been confirmed, it can be assumed that he coached Ethan Winters.

His suspension was due to an attack on a fellow officer[]

During the events of Resident Evil 3, Chris is in Europe investigating the location of Umbrella headquarters, while Jill is in Raccoon City. Jill will meet Chris later, after escaping from the destruction of the city. The reason Chris was able to go on vacation to Europe in the first place was his suspension from RPD and the dissolution of STARS. Chief Irons suspended the officer because he was looking for evidence of Irons' corruption and his connection to Umbrella. Elran, an innocent officer, infuriated Chris and accidentally spilled coffee on him. After punching Elran in the face, Chris was suspended from work in retaliation and got the perfect excuse to travel to Europe.

Afraid to fight with a partner because of the loss of previous ones[]

After Chris seemingly lost Jill and witnessed Pierce's death, he was a lone wolf or captain in any operation he conducted. He has a squad of people under his command, but he has not entered the battlefield with a comrade since Resident Evil 6. As to why, there is no direct answer, but there is a suspicion that it is from fear. Chris takes every victim seriously and considers himself responsible for everything that happens to the people he is supposed to protect. He can get along with the Hunting Dogs operatives, but they are one of the few units he lets into battle.

Often goes beyond the call of duty[]

Chris often ignores orders or does not personally carry out a mission if it is intended for someone to whom he is attached. This is especially noticeable when searching for Jill in Resident Evil 5, but there are many moments when he puts himself in danger for someone else. In the DLC "Not A Hero" and "End of Zoe" for Resident Evil 7, Chris' main motivation is to search for lost Blue Umbrella and BSAA operatives. Ethan personally asks Chris to come back to pick up Zoey, and does his best to connect them by phone. Although his methods are not the most practical, he does his job.

Built up his muscles since Jill disappeared[]

Although it is never clearly stated how Chris got his batting hands, it is obvious that it was in response to Wesker. In the battle with Wesker at the end of Code Veronica, Chris was defeated due to Wesker's superhuman abilities. By the beginning of the events in Resident Evil 5, he had gained a little in size, and after the disappearance of Jill, he had built up muscles. By the beginning of the events of Resident Evil 5, several years had passed, and that was enough for Chris to keep up with his rival.

Worked as a bodyguard to keep paying bills[]

While he had post-traumatic amnesia, Chris stayed at a bar in Eastern Europe. He got drunk to sleep, and even earned himself a reputation as the worst bar patron. Eventually, Chris was tracked down by Pierce and other BSAA agents, but it is unknown how Chris managed to support himself during this time. His aggressive behavior turned out to be useful, since the only job he could get was as a local bodyguard. No one batted an eye when he almost knocked someone out with a bottle - this is just one example of how aggressive a drunk he has become.

Able to really care about someone[]

Chris is very straightforward, focused on the mission. He is the face of what epitomizes the period of action horror before games switched to first-person view. He is still considered a military, armed action hero, but with the release of Resident Evil Village, he has shown himself to be more than an ordinary agent shrouded in mystery.

Chris really cares about the Winters couple and their baby, despite how he is portrayed in the beginning. He still shows himself to be a caring soldier, reminiscent of the old Chris Redfield that fans knew before these new games. However, no matter how caring he is, it doesn't excuse his behavior when he leaves Ethan in the dark, only to lead to what he was trying to prevent.

Has a high sense of justice[]

It is known that even before the events of the first game, Chris Redfield was a bit of a problem child for his senior officers. He was a military man, served in the US BBC with Barry Burton, with whom he quickly became friends. Chris strong sense of justice and morality put him at odds with his superiors, and he eventually left the Air Force because of this. Whether it was his resignation or he was fired remains a mystery, but that's how he ended up in STARS. Of course, this is the only time he disobeyed an order. In Resident Evil 5, he continues the BSAA mission despite the fact that most of the soldiers are dead. Resident Evil 6 continued this trend to a much riskier degree. Chris was following the one he thought was Ada Wong, more for revenge than for a mission.

Development[]

While 1.5 was in development, Chris and the other surviving members of S.T.A.R.S. were not slated to appear.[8] In a 1997 GamePro interview, producer Shinji Mikami explains that this is due to the S.T.A.R.S. members overcoming their fear during the events of Resident Evil.[8] A new cast was needed to achieve the same level of horror as the first game.[8] Despite their physical absence, there is a chance that Roy would have mentioned the S.T.A.R.S. members to Elza Walker as he had built a relationship with them prior to the Umbrella Incident.[6][9]
